About
Hi! I’m Kelli – writer, photographer, lover of all-things Africa.
Feeding friends, growing my own vegetables, riding a bike to work, reading great books and cooking magazines, volunteering at church, being creative, seeing independent movies and running around outside as much as possible — this website is an account of such adventures.
What kind of camera do you use?
I have a Canon Rebel, both print and digital. The majority of my photos are digital. It’s the basic SLR on the market and I don’t think you can get a better photo with as little skill.
What kind of sewing machine do you use?
Singer. The most basic model on the market, essentially. She’s 10 years old and thankfully still kicking. My mama just bought me a fancy new Swedish machine I’m trying to learn too.
Where do you buy your Africankelli sewing labels?
http://www.apparellabels.com.au/ They do an excellent job and are worth every penny.
Why “African” Kelli?
I was briefly in the Peace Corps in Cameroon; I’m an Arizona native, but with many adventures under my belt, I’m African at heart.
How do you have so much time to pursue your hobbies?
Your guess is as good as mine. I love to sleep and love to exercise. I’m the rare bird that makes sure I get plenty of time for both. I also always have my camera at hand to document whatever nonsense I’ve found myself in.
Why do you blog?
This started as a place to post my travel photos for friends and family when I was globe hopping as a public health worker. It’s become a craft/triathalon/gardening/environmentalist/faith/political/African-loving site I enjoy to nurture. I’ve made some great friends through blogging and just hope daily I’m not embarrassing my grandparents or minister with what I decide to post. Otherwise, I keep up with others at Twitter, Facebook and Flickr.
