Captain of the Dino Dorks
October 15th
Want to hear a secret? I have a love of dinosaurs. I know. I know. This makes me even dorkier than the knitting/baking/gardening nerd you already knew.
But imagine my delight when I heard there would be time in the Windy City for the Field Museum, home of Sue and Lucy? WEEEE! (Official dork noise of happiness) I like being on a first name basis with fossils.
So, we rounded up the gang and headed out through Grant Park to visit the museums. Everyone else was more interested in the Shedd, which I visited last time. Fish smish. I wanted ROAR. (And please, who would win in a battle of T-Rex vs. fish?)
Sue, the super dino. That’s who!
Although this photo is blurry, it cracks me up how it looks like there is a little man in green dancing on her head. She’d name him “Snack.”
There were elephants and lions too. I really got lost in the plant exhibit that showed the different families of vegetation around the world. My head hurt and I realized I was feverishly trying to remember everything I was learning. I crave opportunities like this.
I also bought a tiny blue dino t-shirt I’ll be rocking this weekend. Thanks Sue! You are swell! Also, thanks to Target who paid for all admissions that day. Weeee!

Dinos are cool. I <3 them too. Glad that you got to see some, and that you had fun. What a great way to break up the week.
Well, I’m captain of the Star Trek dorks, so don’t you even worry about being captain of the Dino Dorks: Dinos are way less dorky than Star Trek.
Plus, one of my favorite people ever likes Dinos: Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes! You’re in good company!
That looks like so much fun!! Museums are so much more interesting to me now than when I was a kid.
What fun. Glad you got to go and have a wonderful time.
Wow! Really really cool. And not dorky AT ALL.
That place is INCREDIBLE! What a great exhibit for all us dorkie fans of dinos (OK, You can still be Captain of the Dino Dorks, but please let me be 1st officer!)
Glad you had a great time.
I’ll gladly be on your Dorky Dino lovin’ team Capt’n!! Dinosaurs ROCK! I totally love them too!! There’s a dinosaur footprint park nearby in Connecticut where you can make a plaster cast of a dino print!! They found it when they were excavating for a building–thank goodness wiser heads prevailed!
The Field Museum is awesome – and who doesn’t love a dinosaur!!
I love dinosaurs, too! Just before I went on vacation, my neighbor Cindy and I did one of our walks at Tucson Botanical Gardens. One of the featured exhibits were prehistoric plants and the dinosaurs who roamed about during those times. I took some fun pictures of them peeking out of the greenery.
I saw Sue when I was in Chicago about 9 years ago. Very cool!
Originally being from the greater Chicago area, we used to go to the Field Museum back when I was little. I’m sure it has changed a lot since I was last there. It used to be kinda creepy in parts and it was the mummies we couldn’t wait to see…scary but compelling.
My daughter had a thing with dinos when she was little, and she’s the nicest person I know, so…….maybe you’re not behinde help either!
Look at you in your fabulous turquoise jacket. Someone has to liven up that dreary skyline. So bright and beautiful.
