Ninth Day of Christmas
I wish for new challenges.
For example, baking bread. One cheap Dutch oven + one pretty awesome recipe + one January/February 2008 issue of Cooks Illustrated for a bit of cajoling = my first edible loaf of bread.
I paired it with pumpkin apple chestnut soup and salad. The Ya Yas brought fudge, lemon bars and wine. Spending time eating good food with my girlfriends has never been a challenge. Eating in moderation, on the other hand…
Giddyup.

December 22nd, 2007 at 7:52 amDid I send you that link? I totally read that recipe a bunch of months ago, and tried it myself. It’s a really easy and successful way to bake bread.
Merry Christmas! If you’re going to be in town, I hope you’ll join us for the Open House on Christmas Day.
I love Cook Illustrated!!! Everything is quality.

Easy…a bit fiddly having to prepare so far in advance but still….very easy.
December 23rd, 2007 at 8:12 amThe bread looks delish! Waving hi from Scottsdale today! Merry Christmas Kelli.
December 23rd, 2007 at 10:00 amThat looks hot! The soup and bread look like a perfect lunch (or dinner, whatever) and the baking method is great. I haven’t seen that issue of Cook’s yet!!! I will have to inquire with our mail lady.
December 23rd, 2007 at 11:50 pmThat bread looks yummy! I have a bread machine but all I use it for is to stir up the bread and I let it rise in there, you get a great consistency from doing it like that. I let it rise then I take it out and form it however I want to, my favorite is putting it into a braid then I let it rise again in a low low oven and then bake it.
December 26th, 2007 at 6:36 amyum, oh yum, oh YUM!!!!
January 5th, 2008 at 7:06 am[…] Kelli’s post a couple of weeks ago reminded me [Thank you, Kelli!] that I’d never tried any of the famous no-knead bread recipes that caused such a stir last year. I even bought a ceramic casserole dish for the occasion, and then never got around to making it. So, what goes better with a nice bowl of soup than a crusty chunk of freshly-baked bread? Nuttin’, honey! I hereby take my place as possibly one of the last kids on the block to name this the easiest bread ever. The hardest part is remembering to start it the night before, seriously. What I’d really like is a sourdough version of this baby. Anybody have any good tips for that? […]
January 5th, 2008 at 5:57 pmNot sure how the comments work on your site, so not sure you will get this but here goes…
I linked over from another blog and saw the post on the no knead bread you made in January. The one in the aqua bowl? I was a bit perplexed by the parchment paper, so I decided to look back further to see if you mentioned it. That’s when I came upon this post. Still no mention of it, but after staring at the post and looking at all the pictures including “the before” shot. I had the light bulb moment!
Ah ha! She has solved one of my biggest problems with making this recipe. It sticks to everything including the towels that it tells you to flour liberally in the original NK recipe. (In my defense…it is rather late, but then I didn’t solve my own problem either did I? oh well.)
So…anywho. I just wanted to let you know that I think you are brilliant. You have made my week (I was going to be baking at some point this week).
Oh and I totally worship the ground you walk on.
THANK YOU!
