[...] I don’t need to tell you how to spend your own money; surely we all have plenty of ideas to spare. One more thing to consider would be sharing your blessing with your local food bank. I don’t know why I never knew this, but I was actually surprised when I read that the food bank can stretch your dollar a lot farther than they can your food donations. I mean, it makes sense, but I guess I’d never really given it much thought. I came across a verse the other day that really jumped out at me: [...]

If y'all live in the SF Bay Area, Second Harvest Food Bank could use online donations in any amount. They are an incredible group providing food to those in need in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. We work with them every year and it's great to see what they can provide to those in need.

Great ideas Kelli.

Have you heard of couponmom.com? Well the site gives me a weekly list that matches coupons and sale prices. Using this site more than pays for my newspaper, but it also lists products that are free or nearly free due to sales and coupons that food cupboards can use. It's a small thing to pick up a few cheap (or free) items each trip to the grocery store.

Thank you for this post. It reminded me that we need to give back for all the blessings we have received.

That granola looks yummy too!

We even noticed a dramatic decline in participation at our children's school Food Bank drive this past month. I used to rent kitchen space from a Food Bank and witnessed first hand how amazing the employees and volunteers are. I am so thankful for everything they do. The granola looks so yummy. We made consumable gifts this year as well. Although, it was alcohol (kahlua, limoncello and cranberry sipping drink). I will definitely remember to use my recycled jars next year.

Great post on what we should all be mindful of now and all through the year. Our local news just did a report on this very subject. They said that the food banks are suffering severe shortages and cannot meet the needs of the community. I especially love that you mentioned the elderly. Age is to be honored, not ignored.

All charities are hurting in our area. I think I'll go write a check to our local food bank. Thanks for the inspiration!

My family would shoot me if I didn't deliver my famous honey shortbread every year. In fact, when I ask them what they want, they tell me "shortbread." So, less money spent on non-wanted gifts. Love that.

Hey, that's really good information; thanks for passing it along. I can believe that there is a strain on local food banks, considering how expensive *everything* has become lately. Anyway, it's always nice to be able to be effective in your giving, you know?

More and more I'm enjoying giving consumables as gifts. When it's gone, it's gone, and who doesn't appreciate a tasty morsel that they didn't have to prepare? Always good!
