In Stitches — Winners Within the Week
Dear Finny,
Long time, no chat about our happily successful sew-along. Can you believe we’ve received more than 300 submissions in the last 11 months? Even more incredible, can you believe Ms. Butler herself is reviewing these and picking two grand prize winners?
Holy moly. I just cannot get over this. And yes, I am fully aware what a dork it makes me when at happy hour someone asks me what the highlight of my week was and I head straight into, “Well, I’m in this sewing group and this super talented fabric and pattern designer actually emailed me! Can you believe it? Oh my gosh. And she is going to judge our little pool of photos…”
Such conversation, which ultimately always results in the person walking away, rolling his eyes or simply zoning out is man repellent, as my brother so aptly puts it. On the other hand, we have WWF, the latest Mac Leopard/Tiger/Liger details, or football stats. If I can listen to you explain yet again the difference between a linebacker and a tight-end, then you can at least pretend to be alive when I rarely ramble about all things domestic. At least my conversations come with baked goods.
Anyway, for all you In Stitches sew-alongers, I hope your November/December challenge is going well. I am busily sewing a dozen different Christmas gifts and while I’ve thought about what I am doing for this project, it has yet to move past my thoughts into a sketch.
Fin, how fun would it be to receive mail from Amy? I’m sure it would come with a pretty note on her new stationery. And the prize… one can only imagine. It is going to be so fun to announce the finalists and winners with you later this week!
Love,
Donk
P.S. For those interested in our 2008 sew-along project, now is the time to voice your vote. We are taking suggestions for the next book to conquer.

Right now I am actually squealing about the prizes from Amy - I can’t wait to see what she puts together! But I’m also super stoked about the 2008 book…whatever it turns out to be…

December 4th, 2007 at 10:18 amHow will she ever pick!?! Glad that’s not my job. ; )
Wow, look at all those! I’ve got to say we did a fabulous job this year, how is Amy going to choose?
December 4th, 2007 at 10:44 amAll of those projects are sooo pretty. That will be two lucky gals that get a surprise package from Amy Butler herself! I can’t wait to see what the new book is, and am looking forward to sewing with this group in 2008.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:08 pmBeautiful!! Olha, comprei uma maquina de cozer! Temos que falar.
December 4th, 2007 at 4:58 pmAll this is so exciting! I think it is quite gracious of Amy to bless the winners and I am truly appreciative to you and Finny for sponsoring the sew-along.
You know I’ll participate in the 2008 effort–whatever it will be. I’m pondering the book idea but haven’t any suggestion right now. I will say that there is a Bend the Rules group, not a stitch-along but a Flickr group.
December 4th, 2007 at 5:33 pmOh my goodness! My potholder is up there! Yea and thanks! I cannot wait to see who was picked! Good luck everyone!
December 5th, 2007 at 12:30 amyay! thanks for putting my bag up there!!
thanks you guys for putting this together. I really had fun with it, even if I didn’t keep up all that well. Can’t wait for 2008!
December 5th, 2007 at 5:17 amWow! This was so successful and exciting…eve without my help. I never got around to any projects. Sniff. I will eventually though! Hm…2008 sewalong…maybe pull from multiple books? Or, maybe Bending the Rules Sewing? That’s a good, simple, sewing book.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:10 amAll of you gals are so talented, those projects look fantastic. I am actively looking for a book for a sew-a-long which I am interested in doing this year. As far as domestic discussions keep that up Kelli and be yourself its the only way to go.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:12 amThere are some awesome projects. It’s been inspirational. Can’t waut to see who wins. It can’t be easy choosing.
My vote’s for Bend the Rules for 2008.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:20 pmThat’s just so cool. Congrats!
December 6th, 2007 at 10:05 am[…] December 14, 2007 by sewgoodsewfar Well, it may be a day or two late but I found two other friends to add so that will be a total of four new friends today! First, my friend Michele C. from the Holiday Charm Swap sent me a pattern for an awesome tablerunner made from, what else, charms! Well, instead of sending me a pattern she sent me a link to a blog that had the pattern. That blog belonged to Monica Soloria-Snow a.k.a. The Happy Zombie, who is so awesome because, among other things, she has been featured on the Better Homes and Gardens website as a featured blogger! How cool is that!?? So, I spent some time reading her blog and reading about her recent adventures with the storms in Oregon and on the west coast. Her blog is fun, and fresh and totally inspiring. I believe it was when I was reading the comments to one of her posts that I saw that there was a blog named Thimbleanna! Well, I just had to check that one out since I can’t ever resist anything with my name in it, except maybe bananas, but those don’t count because my name has two n’s. And the coolest part about Thimbleanna’s blog? She has a section of her blogroll just dedicated to blogs by people named…Anna! Sooooo cool! I wrote her and said that I just loved her blog and told her how incredibly inspired I was when I read it and how I loved it because my name is Anna too. She said she would be so happy to add me to her Anna Blogroll! What a thrill! Then, I went and just had to read the rest of the blogs she had listed by people named Anna. What fun to read such crafy blogs! So, that was Wednesday. Then today, I went back to The Happy Zombie’s (Monica) blog to do some blog surfing and see who she recommends. Staring with the “A’s” I clicked on AfricanKelli’s blog and started reading all about this Flickr group that was making projects from Amy Butler’s InStitches. Well, I was hooked after that. Unfortunately, that sew along, which lasted for this entire YEAR, is coming to an end, but they are revving up for next year’s group! They are already picking a new book and everything. I so wish that I could have been a part of that group this year! Now I just HAVE to get that book! I have always loved Amy Butler’s fabrics and patterns, and every time I have seen this book I have just drooled, but now that I have seen all the possibilities for this book, it’s a must have! I immediately looked it up on the Barnes and Noble website and sent the link to my dad, declaring that I would be extremely happy to get that exact book for a Christmas present (or a gift card to B&N). Hey, why not, I am a grown up now, I can do that if I want, right? Oh, sorry I digress, so the Flickr group is actually sort of a collaboration between AfricanKelli and Finny Knits who is my fourth Friday Friendsday friend. Her blog is funny and cute and has awesome pictures. And, hey how can I NOT be friends with ANYONE who is an Amy Butler-aholic like I am? You won’t know this until you read their blogs, but they actually got Amy Butler to choose a winner for their flickr group contest! And she’s sending out the prizes! That is just way cool! I really like what Finnyknits says about the chili recipe she posted, […]
