It’s looking good, Kelli! I’ve got my fabrics but haven’t reached the stage you’re at right now. I don’t know why I’m stalling on this–not something I normally do. Seeing your cut pieces is somehow reassuring.
October 5th, 2007 at 11:27 amIt’s going to be awesome!
October 5th, 2007 at 11:59 amPretty pieces, Kelli!
Yeah, I’ve been trying to gird up for this project. Unlike June, I stalled out at the fabric selection stage, so I guess I’m really behind. Who am I kidding? It’s still shocking that we’re a week into October!
October 5th, 2007 at 12:49 pmOh my gosh, I love pink and brown! Can’t wait to see your finished bag, it’s going to be amazing!!
October 5th, 2007 at 12:59 pmI love the colors you picked out!!!
October 5th, 2007 at 1:01 pmI read a couple of older blogs to find out how the training was going as well as looking at the quilt and wow! I’m Impressed! Skinny and strong. Working out that hard should do it. I’m now walking at least 5 day a week but only doing 10 miles, but I’m more than double you age too, and I fell twice 2 weeks ago. It isn’t as though that is my first fall, but it surely whacked my back and shoulders doing it twice in one week on the same parts. Ouch. Still I’m totally impressed. Good work!
October 5th, 2007 at 1:27 pmoooh! I love the color combo!
October 5th, 2007 at 1:46 pmI love it Kelli! And I’m crazy about the chocolate and pink combination you chose. That is going to be one great looking bag.
October 5th, 2007 at 3:18 pmnice patchwork, it will be a new purse in no time now!!! well done with your training too, I am well impressed from reading your previous posts!
October 5th, 2007 at 3:25 pmUm, so I’m kinda feeling stupid about throwing out my patchwork pieces now. I thought I’d just gone horribly awry with my measurements, but it looks like that’s just something that gets worked out in the sewing.
Oh well - yours looks so awesome! You did a great job with the matching up of fabrics. Nice nice!
October 5th, 2007 at 5:02 pmLooks fab - can’t wait to see the finished delicious neopolitan bag!

Wow! I love those colors and that fabric too! Your bag is going to be beautiful!
Over the summer I learned about “charm squares” and ordered myself a few different lines. (Charm squares are sample pieces of a certain fabric line and come in 5″ x 5″ squares. You get about 40 squares.) I purchased a set that includes some of the same prints you are using for your AB bag. FYI-I bought them online from Hancock’s of Paducah. I’m sure you got yours from some awesome store in town or do you buy online?
I’ve used the charm squares for a couple of handbags and some baby stuff. I just posted my latest creation on my blog.
October 10th, 2007 at 10:48 pm[...] Mi querida Finny, I am so glad we took two months to complete the September-October project for our In Stitches sew-along. Let’s be honest — this bag wasn’t easy. Thankfully so, because its complexity made me slow down, read the instructions more than once and learn new techniques. I have never before followed Amy’s instructions with such precision. I bought masking tape, used a seam guide to make sure my 1/4 inch here and 1/2 inch there were in the right place and I even pressed the darn seams. I learned to quilt batting and how to make those cute little pull tabs for the zipper. As I mentioned, I’d saved these fabrics for a handbag just for me. Rarely do I keep what I make because just like most other joys in my life, it isn’t so much about the end result as it is the journey. I truly loved sewing this bag. I found myself sneaking in 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there to work on it. [...]
