Gingerbread — the Breakfast of Champions
Everything’s wrapped. My cards are all mailed. My little Christmas tree is looking quite bare now that the gifts are being delivered. I drove to work truly enjoying a gingerbread man for breakfast. I’ve so enjoyed this holiday season.
{I think about how much fun Christmas will be when I have children one day. I can’t wait to do Advent calendars, hang their stockings, go cut and decorate a tree and create family traditions. One family tradition I know I’ll continue is an orange in the toe of the stockings. I’m not sure how this started in our family, but my brother and I on cue poke at the toe of our stockings Christmas morning and say, “ORANGE!” More than likely this was because we grew up with a bunch of citrus trees in the backyard and my parents had quick access to an additional treat. Regardless, it is always fun to have a bit of routine to holidays.}
Wrapped and delivered this week:
Embroidered T-shirts. I stole this idea from Melissa.
Yep, there is more of that pointsetta fabric. Needless to say, I’ve gotten my money’s worth!
Who doesn’t want a tee with a bit of African sass?
An embroidered saguaro cactus tee for Molly. She was my partner in Shelley’s City Swap. Who is my partner I wonder?
I sewed up a couple drawstring children’s activity bags too. These were stuffed with crayons and coloring books and sweets. They are for some friends who will be traveling this Christmas. Keeping the kids busy and happy keeps the parents cheerful too. Non?
And a poppy wristlet, using the last of my photo fabric paper. I love that photo!
I’m officially out of Adventathon photos and completed projects. Phew. Handmade Christmas was a success this year. Tomorrow I travel to be with family. Be well friends!
Merry Christmas,
Kelli

December 20th, 2006 at 10:01 amMerry Christmas.
December 20th, 2006 at 10:04 amLove the photo fabric wristlet!
We always had a tangerine in the bottom of our stockings - partly because my dad always did when he was a kid, along with a 50p piece, which at the time was the most valuable coin. My mum explained to me that it was actually because a tangerine fits the toe of the sock nicely, and allows for the rest to be filled neatly (BTW we had real socks, my Dad’s not the huge ornamental ones!)
December 20th, 2006 at 10:19 amWe always got/get an apple in the toe of our stockings. My mother alway said it was to remind us of those like my grandfather and others who at one time were overjoyed to receive fresh fruit and what a special treat that was…not so many toys back then.
December 20th, 2006 at 11:29 amWhat a bunch of wonderful projects you have done! Whew!
December 20th, 2006 at 11:57 amI hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family.

look at your tags! so professional. wow.
December 20th, 2006 at 12:16 pmVery cute projects! I recognized the fabrics! Have a wonderful Christmas! Thank you again for all you have done! You deserve the best!
December 20th, 2006 at 1:26 pmMy friend Angie was JUST saying that Christmas isn’t Christmas without an orange in the toe of your stocking. I’m going to have to send her a link to this post. Thanks for the link and congratulations on getting all your crafty projects and mailing done — you’re an inspiration. I have my fingers crossed you’ll get your City Swap box before you leave tomorrow or that it will be waiting for you when you get home (I love late xmas presents). Maybe it’s coming from someplace really cool and far away and that’s why it’s taking so long.
December 20th, 2006 at 2:13 pmI LOVE the title of this post. Gingerbread is so yummy! Everything looks great, and I just know that everyone is going to love their gifts. Nothing beats a thoughtful gift.
Have a safe trip, and a very Merry Christmas!
December 20th, 2006 at 3:56 pmI have so enjoyed getting to see the fruits of your Handmade Christmas - you’ve done it all so beautifully…
We used to get a tangerine in the toe of our stockings - it was so the stocking would hang nicely. The tangerine nestled down into the toe, and was heavy enough to round it out nicely, but not so heavy so as to pull the stocking out of shape!
December 20th, 2006 at 7:48 pmlovely handmade gifts, Kelli!
December 20th, 2006 at 8:27 pmWe always had an orange int he toe of our stocing too. My grandfather said this might hail back to his own (east end of London during the war, one of 10 kids) childhood, when an orange really was a once-a-year treat.
Happy Christmas!
xx
merry christmas and a peaceful new year. Enjoy a happy holiday with family and friends.
December 21st, 2006 at 2:32 amHey Kel! You haven’t gotten your swap package yet? Strange! Your buddy emailed me on Dec. 3 telling me she had gotten it out a day or two before. Hmmm. I hope it didn’t get lost in the mail?? Sadness… I’m still missing one too, but I chalk that up to being over in Italy and the Italian postal system. Icky.
Must feel like a relief to have the Christmas kitchen officially closed. Now you can relax and really enjoy the rest of the holiday season.
I’m glad your readership is growing. Your blog is great!

December 21st, 2006 at 6:08 amWe got an apple & an orange in the bottom of our stockings each year too. I continue this tradition with Steve now and will with our kids too I think. Also - peanuts in the shell. A must.
Of course we always got a few other goodies too. I love stockings!
Have a very Merry Christmas, Kelli! Hope you have a wonderful time with your family.

December 21st, 2006 at 8:51 amHi Kelli,
December 21st, 2006 at 10:59 amI’ve been reading your blog for a while now, not sure if I’ve commented. I notice in your gray t-shirt, what appears to be a tag–do you get them printed somewhere, or did you just write that on a piece of fabric? I’m interested in getting some tags made and wonder where to get some…?
so many pretty things to see on your blog. it’s almost a sensory overload!
santa always stuck an orange in our stockings when we were growing up, too! what a cool tradition. (I haven’t done that with my children, but every year I say I will.)
Merry, Merry Christmas, Kelli!
